Madagascar Tourism : Rehabilitation of road infrastructure towards sustainable development
Madagascar Tourism : Rehabilitation of road infrastructure towards sustainable development
The Executive Director of the Madagascar Tourism Confederation (Ctm), Heritage of RATOVOMALALA, spoke about the current tourist situation in Madagascar. According to him, tourism recovery is on the right track, notably thanks to the multiplication of international flight frequencies and the joint efforts of public and private actors in 2023.
Rehabilitation process on access roads to tourist areas
According to the Director of the Madagascar Tourism Confederation CTM, it is essential and even urgent to carry out the rehabilitation of national roads and access routes to tourist areas. This is to consolidate the efforts of stakeholders, attract more tourists and improve the attractiveness of the country.
« Road infrastructure is a major axis of tourism development, It is imperative to proceed quickly with road repairs to hope to achieve the state's objectives for tourist arrivals this year 2024 (400 000 tourists) and enable sustainable development of the sector”.
It must be seen that tourism is a transversal sector, fundamental pillar of the country's socio-economic development, provider of jobs and foreign exchange, which sustains more than 1 500 000 people in the value chain.
A brake on tourism development
En 2023, the number of international arrivals is encouraging (259 850 tourists), the recovery is underway, but if we really want to attract more travelers to Madagascar, great efforts must be made to improve the tourist framework on the big island”.
According to the Director of the CTM, except the lack of air connections on the domestic network, the poor state of national roads is a brake which seriously affects the development of tourism. It penalizes the activities of professionals who are barely recovering from the health crisis. “Tourists come to Madagascar to discover the wonderful landscapes offered by the big island, unfortunately the current deplorable state of national roads spoils their travel experience and gives a bad image of the destination”. At the present time, the destination Madagascar is among the 23 best places to travel in 2024.
