Mayotte long track : Where will it be established ultimately ?
It's official, The future long track of Mayotte will finally be located in Bouyouni in Grande-Terre.
A decision supported by specific technical studies, which point the limits of the site of Petite-Terre, today unsuitable for the requirements of a project of this magnitude.
This long track is impracticable in Petite-Terre
Despite the attachment of many Mahorais to Dzaoudzi Airport, The facts are relentless. The studies obtained demonstrate that the maintenance of the airport in Petite-Terre is now unrealistic, whatever the political will or the financial means mobilized.
The Fani Maoré volcano has profoundly transformed the basement of the area, making the airport platform unstable. The current track sink slowly. And according to experts, It will be unusable on the horizon 2035.
Keeping it in activity would require total reconstruction, as well as a complete strengthening of the surrounding soil. Such a site would imply the total closure of the track for at least 18 month. This would stop direct flights to Paris, an unacceptable cut for a booming territory.
Studies highlight a high risk of tsunami, especially in the south of the island where the current track is located. No development would make it possible to secure this area permanently. Investing on this site would therefore be extremely risky. Even in the most favorable scenario, The Petite-Terre project would cost more than 7 billion EUR, Without guarantee of sustainability.
Long track in Bouyouni : A strategic project and a tour to the future
Faced with these constraints, Bouyouni's script, initially envisaged as a fallback solution, has established itself as the most rational choice. Located in Grande-Terre, The site has many advantages : Stable floor, An absence of major geological risks, and a vast potential for economic and infrastructure development.
The project provides for the construction of a long track of 2 730 metres, capable of accommodating all types of long-haul aircraft. It will not only maintain, but also to increase air links with Paris and other major destinations. Unlike the Petite-Terre project, in Bouyouni, The work will not interrupt thefts, guaranteeing the continuity of air service. The site also benefits from a nearby material deposit, limiting transport and environmental impact. He is sized to accommodate up to 1,2 million passengers from here 2050. No big development will be necessary in the long term.
