Mr Zo Randrianarivony named Prefect of Mahajanga
Former Secretary General of the Boeny region, Mr Tokifaharana Herimaharo Zo Randrianarivony was appointed Prefect of Mahajanga during the Council of Ministers last Wednesday.
A loyal young man, dynamic, courageous and sociable, he has all the essential qualities to exercise this function with integrity and rigor.
He has held the position of SG of the Boeny region since September 2020 until Tuesday 20 last February where the transfer was made between him and Mr Mandehatsara Georget, the new Secretary General of the Region.
“We have been through a lot of challenges and I especially thank you because you were very special” said the Governor of the Boeny region, Andriatomanga Moukhtar Salim during this handover. Indeed, this proves that Mr Zo is up to his new position.
The Prefect and his job
In case you're wondering, a Prefect is a senior official whose main mission is to represent the State in a Region. He is appointed by the Council of Ministers.
It has all the powers of the State in matters of public order, organization of elections, enforcement of laws and regulations or even environmental protection. The Prefect also manages the various relief and intervention organizations in the territory over which he has authority. : Police, gendarmerie, firefighters, …

Under the high authority of the Malagasy State, the Prefect must, among other things, :
- Implement government policy on its territory ;
- Ensuring the safety of property and people ;
