Sustainable development of the port of Longoni
The Mayotte Port Council met, looking to the future and the development of port infrastructure, under the leadership of Vice-President Ali Omar.
The port of Longoni, keystone of the local economy, must respond to growth in activity. This while preserving the environment and supporting sustainability objectives.
This meeting, marked by the approval of the accounts of Mayotte Channel Gateway for the years 2022 and 2023, is a strong sign of a new era.
Thanks to validated accounts and mobilized funding, a positive dynamic is being established to guarantee development of the port compatible with economic and ecological issues.
Sustainable and inclusive growth for the economy of Mayotte
Faced with the strong growth in activity at the port of Longoni, several structuring projects have been initiated. This while integrating sustainable development principles.
The port development master plan provides for the creation of a new traffic axis to separate incoming and outgoing flows. This will make traffic flow more fluid and reduce environmental impact..
Investments of 55 EUR million, funded by the Sgar, and 20 EUR million, come to support these developments. Ecological initiatives are also being implemented, such as the creation of special barges to transport passengers and vehicles between Grande-Terre and Petite-Terre. These barges will reduce the carbon footprint linked to maritime transport.
In addition, work is planned to improve the Petite-Terre international station. This is to optimize passenger flows while enhancing security with modern equipment.. These projects aim to support sustainable economic growth, to strengthen the competitiveness of Mayotte and guarantee that the port of Longoni. Which continues to play a strategic role in the local economy, while respecting environmental issues.
The development of the port of Longoni also strengthens trade between Mayotte and Madagascar, a key partner of the Indian Ocean.
