In the coming years, Mayotte will have a new airport. Indeed, the project to extend the runway of the current Mayotte airport was finally rejected in favor of this new airport.

The government of Mayotte commits to building a new airport to allow direct large-body flights to the metropolis.

No indication yet on the date of the first groundbreaking. The project will be presented at the start of the school year, once the first studies have been carried out.

Suitable for long-haul and large-capacity aircraft, this runway will allow direct flights to the Metropolis. It will sustainably improve and make the island’s service more reliable.. It will play an essential role in opening up Mayotte and for its economic development..

Where is the long runway project? ?

The Government's plan was initially to extend the runway of the current airport to allow direct large-body flights to the metropolis., without a stopover in Nairobi, Kenya.

Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi airport is exposed to a major geological risk linked to the presence of an underwater volcano whose impacts no one could anticipate. This volcano indeed poses a risk of submersion and tsunami.
