Improving the air transport offer is an integral part of the private sector strategy of Madagascar Tourism to revive the tourism sector on the big island. Akoronga airport in Toliara has just been certified as an international airport. The official presentation of his certificate took place, yesterday, during an inauguration ceremony held in the presence of the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, of the Prime Minister Head of Government, Christian Ntsay, some members of the government and local authorities.

For the Ministry of Transport, “this initiative strongly contributes to the development of Malagasy tourism, especially for the great South”. Actually, thanks to this certificate, Toliara will be able to accommodate international flights and directly welcome tourists, without going through Antananarivo.

Second airport in Madagascar

“Thanks to this certification, Akoronga is ranked second airport in Madagascar after Ivato, Antananarivo”, underlined the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valery Ramonjavelo.

In addition to the airlines which are already users of the airport, charter flights from new destinations will now be able to land directly in Ankoronga.

“The Italian company Neos which already provides service to Milan (Italy) – Nosy Be, already planning direct flights Milan – Toliara”, informed the CEO of Adema.

Under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Adema is the company delegating power from the State in matters of construction, management and operation of civil airports and aerodromes, open to public air traffic. Except for Ivato and Nosy Be airports, all airports on the island are within the company’s ownership.
