Increased risk on hydroxychloroquine use

The World Health Organization launched more than two months ago, clinical trials including hydroxychloroquine, in its program “Solidarity Trial“. The aim was to find an effective treatment for Covid-19.

Currently, more than 400 hospitals in 35 countries are actively recruiting patients. And they recruited nearly 3 500 patients in 17 country, according to the WHO Director-General's explanation.

According to studies published in "The Lancet", nor chloroquine, nor hydroxychloroquine, which is the derivative of chloroquine, do not show effective against coronavirus. On the contrary, these molecules even increase the risk of death and cardiac arrhythmia in hospitalized patients.

Temporary suspension

Then they compared four groups to the 81 000 patients in the control group who did not receive this treatment.

Repealed in France

This Wednesday 27 may, the French government has repealed the provisions that authorize the prescription of hydroxychloroquine against Covid-19 in hospital, excluding clinical trials. This decision was made following an unfavourable opinion of the High Council of Public Health.
