The sights of the Boeny – The Red Circus

Red Circus is located in 12 km north of the city of Mahajanga.
On the road from Amborovy airport, take the turnoff on the left towards small beach. At the crossing of "small beach"., the path to the right leads to Belinta then to the «Grand Pavois» Beach and Red Circus continues on a climb. The site is accessible by car and quad.
It is possible to take the bus n ° 12, up to small beach, or n ° 15, up to Belinta, and continue on foot. The duration of the trip is done in 30 to 45 minutes depending on the condition of the runway and the type of vehicles.

Red Circus is geographically located on the latitude 15 ° 38'04,9 "South and longitude 46 ° 21' 12.1" is. It is to 1,16 Km from the entrance of the Grand Pavois.

Red Circus belongs both to the Commune Urbaine de Mahajanga I ; Fokontany Amborovy, Grand pavois sector and also in the rural Commune of Belobaka ; Fokontany Ampahazony, sector Besely. It is bordering the two Communes bordering. It is located at the edge of the district of Mahajanga I and Mahajanga II, Boeny region, Mahajanga, MADAGASCAR.

Formerly, the Red Circus was named 'Anahidava '., «Ankadibe» and «Andranomamy».. The appellation 'Circus red' was used from 1999.

Also, This site was a former English military camp and it was used as a shooting range. Balls remains and traces of Tomb (toasting, human bones) have been found. According to some testimonies

, English soldiers were buried on the site.

Red Circus is a sedimentary formation of Quaternary age. It is a former delta of 1,8 million years, with an area of 40 HA. The site consists of sedimentary layers, colorful sandstones and marls which could be both fluvial and marine (transgression and regression).

Since year 2000, many visitors begin to look at the site and today, It is part of popular tourist attractions of the region. Unfortunately, the construction of the houses inside and around the site remains a serious threat for its preservation.

Red Circus offers a multitude of wildlife diversity, floristics, geological, paleontological and cultural attracts good number of visitors. Namely :

Circus red clays are used by artisans hanwoori, skilled and experienced, in the manufacture of sand bottles illustrated by patterns and impressive landscapes.

Red Circus is classified National Heritage protected following the Decree n ° 2010-722 of 14 July 2010.
