For his first participation in CHAN, Madagascar finishes in an incredible 3rd place.

This victory is historic for the Malagasy national team which is in its first participation in this final phase of this competition. Rôrô's protégés visibly did better than those of Nicolas Dupuis in 2019 during the first Malagasy participation in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) where the Bareas, composed of professional expatriate players and local players, finished in the quarter-finals of the competition. Faneva Ima, the captain of the national team at the time, also recognized it, throwing : « they are better than us ».

Both authors of a historical journey through CHAN 2022, Madagascar and Niger faced each other this Friday in Oran during the match for 3rd place, a poster which turned to the advantage of Barea, winners on the wire (1-0).

During the first half, rather, it was Mena who dominated the debates. Technically superior, the Nigeriens forced the Malagasy to multiply their mistakes. Yet, except for a catastrophic tackle by Nantenaina Randriamanampisoa on Moussa Bilyamine in full surface, difficult to estimate that Harouna Doula's foals managed to obtain real situations.

On a long shot, Andoniaina Andrianavalona Rakotondrazaka solicited Mahamadou Djibo, who released the ball on Tokinanteinaina Randriatsiferana who missed the target and the recovery from close range. The only real threat of this first act was therefore in favor of Barea and the islanders began to accentuate their domination period after returning from the locker room.

The second half was stressful and no one really engaged anymore. But in the end, after a first alert, when we thought we were heading towards a draw, Tendry Randrianarijaona fired a powerful long-range shot. Djibo could only push the ball back to Jean Razafindrakoto who appeared to shoot him at point blank range in the 90th minute. Niger tried to wake up but much too late and Razakanirina Rakotohasimbola managed to deflect Adamou Djibo's free kick.
