On the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the country's independence, Telma Group launches next generation telecommunications network. 5G network arrives in Madagascar.

The big island is therefore the first African country to benefit from this fifth generation of mobile network technology.

The 5G network is accessible in Madagascar from 26 June 2020

This 26 June 2020, Madagascar celebrated the 60th anniversary of the return of its independence proclaimed on 26 June 1960. And on this occasion, The group Telma Madagascar launched, with ERICSSON, Africa's first 5G services. And it's in Madagascar. The new 5G Telma network has been available for a week now.

Ericsson is a Swedish telecommunications company. It designs and markets fixed and mobile telephony and data transmission systems and equipment. ERICSSON's innovation investments have brought the benefits of telephony and mobile broadband to billions of people around the world.

This 5G network will therefore be used to feed new consumer services in education, health, IoTs and future commercial applications.

According to Telma officials, it will offer an increase in speeds to go as fast as possible, with speed ten times faster than 4G. Benefits on improving connectivity capabilities with many more users who will be able to connect at the same time, while maintaining a high-quality connection.

"We have decided to accelerate the launch of 5G to enable a real digital transformation in Madagascar and respond today to the challenges revealed by the Covid-19 crisis. The key role of telecoms during this crisis demonstrates the strategic nature of our activities and the relevance of our digital inclusion choices.". This is what the Telma PCA and CEO of the Axian Group said, Mr Hassanein Hiridjee.

Technology development and digital transformation of Madagascar

This new technology will help redraw the technological and entrepreneurial landscape on the Big Island.

Technology will support the development of the Internet and mobile services while enabling businesses and individuals to access a broadband connection.

Concerns about exposure to the airwaves exist. But scientists are reassuring about the exploitation of this new network. Indeed, international health authorities such as WHO have already conducted studies on radio frequencies. So far, the results of these studies indicate thatthere is no scientific evidence of a proven health risk when exposure to radio waves is below the recommended thresholds.

Telma Madagascar's Managing Director, Mr Patrick Pisal-Hamida, so it was clear that. "5G will transform the way we use and adopt technology and have a huge impact on the economy and the country. This technology will bring a high speed, ultra-low latency and highly secure connectivity to a large number of devices. It is a technology that will open up a wide range of new uses via Telma's next-generation network, especially in education and health. We are among the first countries in the world to deploy this technology.".

« This is another step forward for Madagascar as one of the leading ICT countries in the Indian Ocean and Africa."

This new speed of communication makes it possible to carry out even more complex operations. It'll be easier to download large files, edit them collaboratively and share them from a smartphone or a simple mobile device. Thus, employees will be able to enjoy all Microsoft and Adobe suites directly via their mobile phone, from the company's 5G network.

However, it should be noted that this network is not yet available in the provinces. For the moment, it is only available in the capital. But it will just wait for the improvement of the state of health emergency to be deployed all over the island. (The Madagascar Express 01ER/07/20)
