The solution to climate change

The solution to climate change

The solution to climate change

The climatic events of the last ten years have not been the most lenient. How to explain this phenomenon of intensification of natural disasters ? What solutions to regulate this climate problem ?

We have natural solutions, economically viable, lower cost and sustainable which are the “Nature-based Solutions”.

Nature is the solution to climate change

We are rich in a nature that allows us to benefit from these benefits on which we depend daily.

Indeed, although we are not always aware of it, nature is much more essential than we think. Faced with climate change, who in the long term, could impact the planet irreversibly, we have natural solutions, economically viable, at lower cost and durable known as the “Nature-based solutions”.

According to'IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), nature-based solutions refer to : “actions aimed at protecting, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems to directly address societal challenges in an effective and adaptive manner, while ensuring human well-being and producing benefits for biodiversity”.

Ecosystems

These large carbon reservoirs, and that, if they are protected and preserved, help to mitigate the impacts of climate change and therefore, contribute to human well-being. Worldwide, they absorb around half of the CO2 emissions generated by human activities each year and thus constitute solutions, mostly, for climate regulation on the one hand, and the reduction of risks and disasters on the other hand.

Solution for climate regulation

  • Healthy ecosystems help capture and sequester carbon over the long term, thus avoiding massive carbon emissions responsible for rising temperatures
  • The sustainable and efficient management of protected areas is among the strategies recognized by the IPCC in achieving the objectives of reducing carbon emissions by 2030. Protected areas help tackle the main cause of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing impacts through the maintenance of key functions. Managing ecosystems as carbon sinks combined with adaptation measures form necessary strategies, effective and relatively inexpensive, thanks to which a warming of 0.5°C could be avoided

Solution to reduce risks and disasters

  • Ecosystems, particularly wetlands, help to mitigate the intensity of flooding and thus reduce the associated damage and loss of human life.
  • The protection of coastal ecosystems represents a natural risk management tool, with potential for innovative solutions for the stakeholders involved

Brief, the nature, particularly through ecosystems, is the solution to mitigate the effects of climate change.
