World Youth Days in Madagascar (JMJ Mada X)

After Mahajanga, the diocese of Antsirabe will host the tenth edition of World Youth Days or JMJ Mada. This event takes place the 30 August at the 4 September 2022 in the capital of Vakinankaratra. About 30 000 young pilgrims are expected there.

First and foremost, World Youth Days are a vast platform for meeting and exchanges for young people in research on theological questions. They are held every four years.

These are religious dating, but also an opportunity for young people to share the principles of today's generation.

The Catholic Church recognizes and accepts that the young generation constitutes a precious asset both for the nation and for the Church.. This is why this Christian community has taken care of their well-being and development in the areas of intellectual formation and spirituality.. During this event, young people leave their habits to take time to share and reflect on the meaning of their life and their relationship with God. During 5 days, they are called to live times of catechesis to develop their dialogue with Christ.

Indeed, this is a moment to express, to deepen and live the faith.

“During this event, the faithful will receive the messages of God but also of the Church to live the Christian life, the one that is due at the level of society” indicated the spokesperson for the episcopal conference of Madagascar, Bishop Gabriel Randrianantenaina, bishop of Tsiroanomandidy.

Tenth edition of JMJ Mada

“Arise for I will make you a witness of the things you have seen” (act 26,16). This is the theme chosen for the tenth edition of World Youth Days in Madagascar (JMJ Mada X).

This great meeting of young Catholic Christians will be held in the diocese of Antsirabe du 30 August at the 4 September 2022.

Actually, the World Youth Day steering committee (WYD) Mada X is currently in the phase of preparing the sites to welcome pilgrims.

About fifteen sites are planned for the accommodation of those who will come, reports a source to this committee. These sites have at least sixty reception centers. These reception centres, which can be classrooms or rooms provided by the communities, will be used for sleeping and eating.. Each site will have at its disposal a bishop to preside over the pilgrimage and to ensure the catechism.

The steering committee considers welcoming between 25.000 and 30.000 pilgrims even if the exact figures must still await the balance sheet coming from each district. Registrations have already closed at the end of June.

The main site located in Mandaniresaka, for its part, will mainly host the opening and closing masses. The city authorities have already started the earthworks of this area for a few weeks.

Rappel

Recall that eight cities in Madagascar have already hosted WYD Mada, namely, Mahajanga en 1998, Antsirabe en 1999, Fianarantsoa en 2001 and in 2015, Antananarivo en 2004, Toamasina no 2006, toliara in 2009, Antsiranana en 2012, and Mahajanga in 2018.

Antsirabe will then be the ninth city and it will be the second time that it hosts this event..

If WYD Mada 8 gathered around 60.000 people in Fianarantsoa in 2015. And nearly 100.000 young people in Mahajanga in 2018. We can hope for a very large influx this year after the two years of the Covid-19 crisis..
