Faced with rising concerns about the cost of plane tickets, Air Austral unveils its new system “Family Emergencies”. This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on caregivers and bereaved families. This while meeting the growing demands of the population.

Device to make plane tickets more affordable

Introduction to the program “Family Emergencies” by Air Austral arrives at a time when many groups and citizens are concerned about ticket prices. This in particular those linking Mayotte to Reunion or the mainland. This system aims to make essential travel for families more accessible, especially in difficult times.

In practice, the program offers capped rates for caregivers and bereaved families :

• For caregivers of a hospitalized loved one : 466 euros TTC for a round trip to Reunion and 1 095 EUR TTC for Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
• For bereaved families : 360 euros TTC for a round trip to Reunion and 914 EUR for Paris.

In addition, processing fees are free, thus facilitating access to these essential journeys. This program, well received by the local population, directly responds to the demands of citizen groups who called for a significant reduction in plane ticket prices.

Important measure to reduce the cost of tickets in Mayotte

Although this initiative represents a notable step forward, many voices are being raised to emphasize that these reductions should not be limited to emergency situations. Currently, travel still remains inaccessible for a large part of the population of Mayotte.

And citizens’ concerns go beyond specific emergency cases. Many hope for a more general reduction in fares for all passengers, in order to allow a greater number of Mahorais to travel without affecting their purchasing power.

The reactions of groups and passengers will be decisive in assessing the real impact of this measure and continuing it., or extend it, to other categories of travelers.

Air Austral maintains its connections with Mayotte despite the challenges

Air Austral is going through a phase of financial recovery after a difficult period, with the support of the State and its shareholders. The company aims to break even by March 2025.
