The President of the Departmental Council of Mayotte Ben Issa Ousseni and his delegation were traveling to Madagascar for the opening of the maritime link between Majunga and Mayotte.

The President of the Departmental Council met the Malagasy Minister of Transport Dr Valérie Ramonjavelo to’opening of the maritime link between Mayotte and Madagascar, notably Majunga and Mayotte.
A consortium composed of 3 companies are in charge of the project including Nahabe, a Mahorese company, Madintex a Malagasy company and Madjikha Fils Seimour, the Comoros. This consortium plans to create a Mahorese shipping company opening a regional maritime route in Madagascar – Mayotte. This involves having small boats with a capacity of 21 containers of 20 feet, a size adapted to the port of Majunga which can connect Madagascar to Mayotte in 24 hours.
The first rotation could take place before the end of the year 2023. An application for Interreg funding 14 -20 is currently being studied at the Prefecture of Mayotte. Actually, the Department will provide financial support for this strategic project as soon as a favorable opinion is given to the request for European funds, indicated the President of the Departmental Council.

Located at 345 km nearby, Majunga – Mayotte share almost the same cultural and ancestral rites don't the "Sakalava way". The two islands are historically linked which results in an unrivaled bond or friendship between the Mahorais and the Majungais..
