Fight against Covid-19 : Madagascar has just received the Covishield/AstraZeneca vaccine
Covid-19 : Arrival of vaccines in Madagascar : The Big Island has just received today a first batch of 250 000 doses of the Covishield/AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19, through the global COVAX initiative.
Beneficiaries
We will deploy these doses to vaccinate the actors on the front line in the fight against COVID19 in Madagascar.
All adult citizens in Madagascar who wish to be vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to receive injections. However, active cases as well as people who have already contracted the virus will be excluded from the beneficiaries..
These vaccines will also be administered to all adult citizens, reassured the Director of Health Promotion (DPS) from the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Manitra Rakotoarivony.
Selection mode
Reactions are coming from everywhere after the announcement of the list of priority people. Because given the surge in Covid-19 cases around the world, all citizens want access to vaccination.
However, Dr. Manitra Rakotoarivony indicated that l’anti-Covid vaccines will not be administered to patients or people cured of Covid-19.
He indicated that : “Vaccination is a preventive and non-curative method which does not require vaccination of active cases. In practice, a person already infected is immune for a certain period of time”.
Vaccination sites
For the moment, vaccination sites for adults wishing to be vaccinated have not yet been communicated.
However, the Ministry of Public Health has already published the sites for other targeted people.
For healthcare personnel, vaccination will take place in university hospital centers (CHU) for those who work in big cities. And it’s at the district reference hospital centers (CHRD), for those in districts and regions.
Regarding the police, the administration of vaccines will be done at the Soavinandriana Hospital Center (CENHOSOA) and in the Garrison infirmaries.
For more than 60 years, vaccinodromes in the former provincial capitals, including Antsirabe and Sambava as well as the Basic Health Centers will welcome them.
For diabetics, vaccination will be carried out in AMADIA branches, CSB and CHRD. And, people at risk will however be able to join the CSB, CHRD, CHRR and CHU. This is the case, for example, for obese people., hypertensive and asthmatic.
Vaccination registrations
For law enforcement and healthcare personnel, registrations close tomorrow. For more than 60 years, registrations will begin tomorrow at the CSB level. And they will have to have a national identity card (CIN). The same for people at risk, but in addition to the CIN, they will be invited to present their medical records.
For diabetics, interested parties have been able to register with AMADIA branches since 3 may.
On his Facebook page, l’OMS Madagascar thanks the COVAX program : “Thank you to the COVAX Initiative and all partners for making this possible.”
