Cooperation between Air Austral and Corsair

Facing the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, a cooperation project between the airlines Air Austral and Corsair International is announced. A commercial cooperation project on the routes between France and the Indian Ocean.

Joint-venture

“In a context of persistent health crisis which is permanently affecting the profitability of the aviation sector”, the two French companies unveiled the 17 august 2021 negotiations to create a joint venture (joint-venture). This " major project " will allow according to their statement the deployment of an enhanced service offer for the benefit of passengers in the Indian Ocean, while improving the economic profitability of operations “thanks to the pooling of resources and the implementation of synergies”.

On the connections between the airports of mainland France and Saint Denis-Roland Garros, the union of “their respective strengths and assets” should make it possible to develop an offer that will be likely to generate “advantages and benefits” for customers :

  • reinforced flight program,
  • wide and diversified choice (access to the two Parisian airports, variety of departure and arrival time slots),
  • richer connections thanks to the combined networks of the two companies,
  • expanded and more competitive price offer,
  • and also an improved Freight offer.

Strengthen connectivity

Thanks to the very strong regional roots of the Reunionese company Air Austral and the historical establishment of the Corsair company in the overseas territories, this major project “will make a very significant contribution to strengthening connectivity, not only in the overseas departments, but also with the other destinations served by the two companies : the Canada, Africa, or international destinations in the Indian Ocean (Maurice, Madagascar, Seychelles, The Comoros) ».

“Preserving the identity and independence of 2 companies »

The joint venture project intends to “preserve the identity and independence of the 2 companies ». It will be submitted, before its implementation, " like it should be ", the opinion of the Staff Representative Bodies and the French Competition Authority. But it therefore took the health crisis to bring the two French companies together.. Yet, they had fallen out at the beginning 2018 following the alliance between Air Austral and Air Madagascar at the expense of Corsair on the Reunion – Madagascar axis.

Air Austral

Air Austral, French company born and based in Reunion, is positioned as a major player in serving the Indian Ocean, between metropolitan France and its regional links : Meeting, Maurice, Mayotte, the Comoros, Madagascar, the Seychelles or even South Africa, the Thailand (Bangkok) and South India (Chennai). At the start of the meeting, Air Austral operates daily to Paris CDG, as well as to the islands of the Indian Ocean. From Dzaoudzi airport, it serves Paris CDG up to 5 flights per week. With a Share code concluded with Air France, the Reunionese company also offers flights from 40 European destinations or from 19 provincial towns + Brussels in partnership with TGV Air, via Paris CDG.

Corsair

French long-haul scheduled airline, Corsair employs 970 collaborators. She carries 1,2 million passengers per year. Corsair operates regular flights to the Caribbean (Guadeloupe and Martinique), Indian Ocean (The meeting, Mauritius, Mayotte), Africa (Côte d'Ivoire) and Canada (Montréal) and Punta Cana from 11 December 2021. Opening of connections from the province :
