Madagascar celebrates its 64 years of independence. An anniversary that recalls so many of the challenges and successes that have marked Madagascar throughout history.
Long live the independence of Madagascar
The independence of Madagascar was proclaimed on 26 June 1960 following a negotiated process between the Malagasy political elite and the French government. This process was started after the Malagasy insurrection of 1947.
According to the Madagascar Express, “If Madagascar were a person, she would be an old lady blowing out her candles with difficulty on a cake devoid of cream”. The Malagasy people continue to fight, seeking solutions to improve their situation despite obstacles.
A hope of renewal
TO 64 years, Madagascar stands at a crossroads between persistent poverty and hopes for renewal. If the challenges remain numerous, the international successes of its citizens offer an inspiring model for the future. Celebrating this anniversary, it is crucial to remember lessons from the past while looking toward a future where collaboration and innovation can lead to positive change.
President Andry Nirina RAJOELINA continues to improve the situation in Madagascar, always using the word hope "Madagascar must move forward".
This sentence can be translated as : “Madagascar will develop at all costs”.
Each year, the Malagasy population hoists the national flag. And the authorities begin to decorate all the big cities. The 25 June, the whole population gathers in one place to watch the fireworks and playing with lanterns, on each district.
For the case of Majunga, the entire population will gather at the tourist village. And every 26 June, ceremonies will take place (parade).
