This 23 may : Celebrating World Turtle Day
"Slowly but surely"
Today, This 23 may : we celebrate World Turtle Day. “There's no point in running ; you have to leave at the right time” …. "Slowly but surely" … to the rhythm of turtles.
It’s the organization " American Tortoise Rescue which launched this international day dedicated to turtles. It's a non-profit organization. It was launched more than 19 years for the purpose of celebrate and protect one of the world's oldest creatures. Indeed, turtles are one of the oldest species in the world.
Since its founding in the early 1990s 2000, "American Tortoise Rescue" has relocated more than 4,000 freshwater and land-based turtles to places that are welcoming to them around the world.
This year's World Turtle Day theme aims to encourage people to "adopt" a turtle instead of "buy" it. This in turn will encourage the adoption of land and freshwater turtles to rescue agencies around the world.
They are essential to the health of our oceans
If we are to preserve them, it's because these turtles are essential to the health of our oceans. But it's not just that. It's also because they're beautiful, Innocent, very peaceful and peaceful.
They create homes for marine life. Eating dead fish, they keep the water clean and, at the same time, they ensure the health of underwater flora and fauna.
Sos
Turtles are among the most threatened species in the world. 70% of their species are endangered. They are victims of poaching. We buy them and eat them for their flesh. They are transformed into a pet or garden decoration. Or even, they are turned into a pharmaceutical product. Biologists and biodiversity experts predict extinction of wild land and freshwater turtles from here 50 years if nothing is done to stop these killings of these species.
"I'm not eating, I'm not for sale, I'm not decorative, I'm not exporting". This is the slogan of USAID and WWF on a program they launched in a campaign against turtle trafficking.
