Happy Ramadan to all the Muslim people

According to the statement of the national moon committee in Madagascar, the holy month of Ramadan will begin this Friday 24 March 2023. We wish a good start to Ramadan to all Muslims.

What is ramadan ?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. This calendar being lunar, the month of Ramadan shifts each year.

Ramadan fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam with the profession of faith, pilgrimage to Mecca, Prayer, and compulsory alms.

According to tradition, archangel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet Muhammad on the 27th night of the month of Ramadan to reveal the Koran to him. To celebrate this major event of Islam, fasting was established during this holy month of Ramadan in the second year of the Hegira (Islamic calendar), or in 624 of the Christian era.

And during the month of Ramadan, Muslims should not eat, nor drink, or have sex, or smoking during the day.

When the end of the month of Ramadan will take place ?

The estimated date of the end of Ramadan or Eid el-Fitr is 21 or 22 April 2023, in the meantime. This is an estimate based on astronomical calculations. This is an opportunity for all Muslims to get together with their families.

Aïd el-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. It is one of the holy holidays in Islam religion.

It is also sometimes called aïd as-Seghir "little party", as opposed toaïd al-Kebir, "the big party".

Many Muslims attend community prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr during Eid al-Fitr.

Zakat al-fitr

At the end of the month of Ramadan, to validate and purify your fast, the Muslim must pay the Zakat al-Fitr (charity in the form of food).

This Zakât must be paid by each Muslim head of household (in general the father of the family) for him and for those dependent on him mandatory (women, children, elderly parents, etc.).
