Air Austral cancels its flights to and from Tamatave

Air Austral is one of the airlines authorized to transport passengers to and from Madagascar, particularly on the Reunion-Antananarivo and Reunion-Toamasina line with two weekly frequencies. On the other hand, the company is forced to cancel its flights to and from Tamatave.

Cancellation of flights from and to Tamatave

While the company Air Austral is still awaiting the formal approval of its flight program for the IATA season which opened on 27 last March, the company is forced to withdraw the Tamatave service from its operations for the next few weeks. Indeed, she has not received permission from the Malagasy authorities, as originally planned.

Currently, Air Austral is still authorized to operate only two flights per week within the limit of 132 passengers per flight, between Reunion and Antananarivo.

This does not allow it to meet the demand for trips to and from Madagascar. Yet this demand is very strong today and continues to grow..

Additional flights to Antananarivo

Air Austral is currently awaiting approval for additional flights to Antananarivo.

In order to meet this important demand, the company proposes to operate a return to the pre-crisis period, which counted up to 16 frequencies per week. Also, it asks to serve the 6 destinations it served before the Covid crisis. Namely : Antananarivo, Tamatave, Nosy Be, Toliara, Fort Dauphin and Diego Suarez.

Air Austral requests

Air Austral has also declared itself ready to establish a code-share agreement with Madagascar Airlines in order to maintain a balance and reciprocity..

The authorities concerned must propose a timetable for the deployment of all its flights, this is the wish of the company.

Finally, aware of the constraints linked to the policies to fight against illicit trafficking pursued by the State of Madagascar, it offered to work with the Malagasy authorities and the airports concerned. A proposal to seek procedures to carry out this virtuous approach in Madagascar as in Reunion. This will avoid penalizing, neither passenger traffic and travel demand, nor the economic activity of the two territories.
